Commute to Zhujiajiao Water Village

SHANGHAI, CHINA – After roaming the Shanghai Museum I decided to visit the ancient water village nearest from Shanghai center. I did this commute to Zhujiajiao water village in the late afternoon. It was already spring hence the weather was sunny at that time.

How to commute to Zhujiajiao Water Village

Walking distance from the Shanghai Museum, go to Shanghai Concert Hall. On the right side of the concert hall is a parking space for buses. The buses to Zhujiajiao are painted pink. The bus line is called Hùzhū Gāosù Kuàixiàn (沪朱高速快线) you can print this so that you can show to anyone you can ask along the way when finding the bus line.

Travel time will take around 1 hour and the last stop will be Zhujiajiao itself. Fare is just less than 15 yuan per person.

Going back to the Shanghai city centre, you will just use the same bus line and go back to the same terminal. So to commute to Zhujiajiao water village is pretty straight forward.

    I missed the first road entrance to the water village nearest from the bus terminal. I walked along the whole stretch of Xiangningbang Road. This has put me on the farthest side of the water village.

    However, it was nice to see the park at this end of Zhujiajiao. There are no tourist here at all. This part of the water village was very serene.

    I was relieved to see the Qing Imperial Post Office, the best preserved Qing-era post office in China. I know at this point I was back on track to see much of the sights of Zhujiajiao water village.

    Along the way I was able to see My Way Boutique Hostel in Zhujiajiao Ancient Town.

    There are a lot of cafes and teashops on this ancient town. Your trip in Zhujiajiao will not be complete if you will not have at least coffee or tea, whatever you fancy along the canal/creek. It would be up to you to find the perfect spot for this purpose.

    Cruising inside the water village in their traditional gondola is another popular activity. For those looking for souvenirs, shops are plenty as well.

    Bridges of Zhujiajiao Water Village

    There are 36 stonebridges in the whole village. Each one of them is unique and beautiful. The main bridge will be Fangsheng located in the center of Zhujiajiao where most tourists are concentrated. Try to find your favorite bridge.

    It will take you maybe at most a total of 2-3 hours to see most of the sights in this ancient village depending on the activities you will like to try.

    Again, it is really easy to commute to Zhujiajiao water village and it will be definitely worth visiting.
