ILOILO CITY, ILOILO – I was greatly surprised that my visit to Iloilo will be so memorable. Ilonggos are really warm and welcoming plus the awesome local food of the island is not to be missed.
This is a short segue about our Go Hotels Iloilo stay and Calle Real walk.
Coming from the airport, you do not need to take the taxi, the airport shuttles (vans) are plenty and cheap. This ride will bring you to SM Iloilo and from there it will be cheaper to take a taxi to your hotel.
We have booked Go Hotels Iloilo for a night. It is conveniently located inside the Robinsons Iloilo mall. Check-in process was quick and with the price we have paid for the night it was worth it. The hotel was well maintained and pretty look decent.
Breakfast was not included. We decided that it will be a must to try the La Paz Batchoy in its birthplace – the La Paz Market. A local transport (jeepney) will take you there for a minimum fare. You can catch a ride from the front of Robinsons Iloilo.
A quick visit to Calle Real
After watching a movie inside the mall, I wanted to try Roberto’s famous siopao. Along the way I know we will be able to have a peek of Calle Real’s old buildings.
From Robinsons Mall Iloilo it was only a 15-min walk to a roundabout wherein you can see the start of the old buildings of Calle Real.
The buildings at night bathed in street nights and with their own yellow lights look very beautiful. It was amazing to see these structures from the 1920’s to 1950’s still standing and in good condition.
Dinner at Roberto’s
We had our dinner in Roberto’s. As mentioned on most websites, the availability of their Queen siopao is scheduled and that night we were not able to order it.
I thought the siopao varieties will be the main draw of this establishment. For me our siopao experience was just okay. Nothing to rave about. You should try though the other delicacies of Roberto’s. Nonetheless it was a good dinner after our Calle Real walk.
