VANG VIENG, LAOS – After staying in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, most travelers will visit Vang Vieng.
I have booked my transportation to Vang Vieng via iHouse. I was picked up in my hotel by a minibus and was dropped off to the meeting place where a bus full of backpackers was waiting.
The bus ride was about 3 hours and was a good way to see the countryside of Laos. We arrived in the bus terminal across the main highway and outside the town of Vang Vieng. From here I walked towards Nam Song river where most accommodations are located in the riverfront.
I have stayed in Thavonsouk Resort along the river.
Other accommodations you can check out in Vang Vieng:
The resort’s nightly rate is very cheap. The room was big with a balcony overlooking the Nam Song river. The wifi though was weak in this area but understandable. I really liked the buffet breakfast as well. Their dining hall is literally along the river and you have this beautiful backdrop of the karst mountains while having your breakfast.
Sick in Vang Vieng
It was my first time to get really sick during my solo travel. I was already feeling feverish when I got in my room. I took some medicines and decided to take a nap. I know with this kind of situation I cannot explore Vang Vieng or even do the tubing in the river.
However my health condition was something that I do not want to compromise. I still “need” to go to Luang Prabang and go back to Vientiane. I also have a short visit again to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. It meant that I need to do my best to feel better.
I was able to control my fever by drinking paracetamol every four hours. During my whole stay in Vang Vieng I was just inside Thavonsouk Resort napping and drinking lots of water.
However I needed to arrange my transport to Luang Prabang. So I muster all my strength to go to the main town of Vang Vieng. I did not need to go further since along the road there are couple of restaurants and establishments advertising van transfers to Luang Prabang. My accommodation in Luang Prabang has been booked already as well back in Manila.
This was indeed a very quick Vang Vieng side trip. Being melodramatic about it, I did my best to keep myself alive.
